Welcome to A.L. Burruss Elementary! I'm Dr. Jillian Johnson, and I have the privilege of serving as the principal of this incredible school. I’ve been part of the Burruss family since 2016—first as assistant principal, and since 2018 as principal. Each day, I feel honored to work alongside our dedicated staff, amazing students, and supportive families to help every child thrive.

Before joining Marietta City Schools, I spent twelve years in Fulton County Schools, where I served as both an English teacher and an assistant principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. These experiences shaped my deep belief in the power of strong instruction, positive relationships, and responsive leadership across all grade levels.

I grew up in Dalton, Georgia, and attended the University of Georgia, where I earned my degree in English Education (Go Dawgs!). I later received my master’s in Reading Education from Mercer University and completed my doctorate in School Improvement with a focus on educational leadership at the University of West Georgia. My academic journey and professional path have given me a K–12 perspective that guides the decisions I make every day to support students, staff, and families.

At Burruss, we believe that partnership is the foundation of success. Our school is a place where relationships come first, and where families, teachers, and the wider community work together to make learning joyful, inclusive, and meaningful. We are committed to meeting the needs of every child, every day.

When I'm not at school, I love spending time with my husband and our two daughters. I also enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, traveling, and exploring Marietta with my family.

Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education. I look forward to partnering with you in the years ahead!

Warmly,
Dr. Jillian Johnson
