Language and Communications Academy
The Language and Communications Academy at A.L. Burruss Elementary provides kindergarten through fifth grade students a broad academic program using multi-modal instruction to develop speaking, writing, presentation and collaboration skills. This program challenges students to become critical thinkers, and to effectively obtain, interpret, and apply information to communicate ideas.

MCS Teachers of the Year Honored - MHS Home Opener vs. Hillgrove, Sept. 3
Marietta City Schools Teachers of the Year were recently honored at the Marietta High School (MHS) home opener against Hillgrove at Northcutt Stadium. Superintendent, Dr. Emily Lembeck greeted each teacher as they were called onto the field.

Marietta Blue Devils Live on WSB-TV SportsZone, Sept. 10
Watch the Marietta High School Blue Devils take on McEachern on WSB-TV SportsZone Friday. Channel 2 WSB-TV and PlayON! Sports will broadcast the game live to fans all over north Georgia. Games will air on RTV - Comcast Cable channel 248 or Charter channel 127 at 7:30 p.m. and replay at 1 a.m. on Channel 2.

Constitution Day 5th Grade Donation, Sept. 17
Constitution Day (or Citizenship Day) is an American federal observance that commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, and those who have become U.S. citizens. The signing of the U.S. Constitution established the many rights and freedoms “We the People” enjoy today. In honor of Constitution Day, the Constitution Day Committee will donate copies of the Constitution to each Marietta City Schools fifth grade student.

Marietta Reads! 8th Annual Event – Marietta Square, Sept. 25
Marietta Reads!, the Marietta City Schools citywide effort to foster reading and literacy in the community, celebrates its eighth-year anniversary on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in Glover Park on Marietta Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

MCS Superintendent Among Finalists GSSA 2011 Superintendent of the Year
Marietta City Schools (MCS) Superintendent, Dr. Emily Lembeck is among four finalists named by the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) for 2011 Superintendent of the Year. Lembeck, also a finalist in 2010, was selected from among a field of twenty superintendents, three-fourths of them that were placed in nomination by members of their local boards of education. More»
Four Marietta City Elementary Schools Host Kennesaw State Teacher Candidates
Four Marietta City schools: A. L. Burruss Elementary, Hickory Hills Elementary, Sawyer Road Elementary and Park Street Elementary are collaborating with Kennesaw State University (KSU) to host a cohort of 27 teacher candidates. Each candidate completes a two semester, yearlong field experience that includes Teaching of Specific Skills (TOSS), a program focused on integrating technology for student learning. More»
